This song began after reading Reginald Dwayne Bett’s book of poetry called "Felon", and thinking of our broken prison systems; including here in New Zealand where Maori make up 52.7 percent of the prison population despite only making up 15 percent of the population of the country. I tried to imagine if I was a felon where my hope would go. Prison serves a purpose, but it doesn't deal with the issues, it just pushes them down.
